Books To Help You Beat the Heat - Bookcast Newsletter

Stay Cool, Bookcasters!

Hey there Reader,

It seems like the story of the summer (so far) is this insane heat. Since we're all staying inside, you might as well be reading, right?

To help you keep building that TBR pile, here are 7 books set in the summer to enjoy on the beach or wherever you might find yourself this July:

  • Summer of '99 - J.L. Hyde: A decades-old mystery centered around a pre-teen camp sets the scene for this great book by friend of the podcast, J.L. Hyde.
  • The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald: If it's been a while since you've read Gatsby, you might have forgotten how much the summer heat permeates this classic novel.
  • Beach Read - Emily Henry: The title makes it obvious, but plenty of writing and romance for those who are into that sort of thing.
  • The Mysterious Affair at Styles - Agatha Christie: This first Hercule Poirot mystery features summer as a critical piece of the puzzle.
  • Jaws - Peter Benchley: A great white shark. Summertime beaches. Quint. Brody. Completely safe to read by the pool.
  • Prodigal Summer - Barbara Kingsolver: Three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives inhabiting the forested mountains and struggling small farms of southern Appalachia.
  • Malibu Rising - Taylor Jenkins Reid: Four famous siblings throw an epic party to celebrate the end of the summer. But over the course of twenty-four hours, the family drama that ensues will change their lives will change forever.
