Colorful Books for the Fall - Bookcast Newsletter

Happy Autumn!

Hey there Reader,

I get it, it's only September and it's still hot in Oklahoma, but school (and football!) has started and eventually the season is going to turn. With the turning seasons come turning leaves, which made me think about colors - so here are eight books with colors in the title to check out this fall on your road trip to watch the leaves change color in Eastern Oklahoma!

Remember - you can get any of these books (and help out the show!) by clicking on the link and purchasing them through our Bookshop.org site. Ten percent of your purchase also goes to help indie bookstores. Win. Win. Win.

  • All Systems Red - Martha Wells: The first book in the Murderbot Diaries, featuring a self-aware security android, as it navigates its growing independence while protecting a research team on a dangerous mission.
  • The Bluest Eye - Toni Morrison: Poignant and haunting novel exploring the devastating impact of racism and internalized beauty standards on a young Black girl in 1940s America.
  • Half of a Yellow Sun - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: Powerful historical novel that intertwines the lives of three characters against the backdrop of the Nigerian Civil War, exploring themes of love, loyalty, and the brutal realities of conflict.
  • The Green Mile - Stephen King: Emotionally charged novel following the lives of death row inmates and their guards, centering on a miraculous prisoner with supernatural abilities and the moral dilemmas his presence provokes.
  • The Color Purple - Alice Walker: Powerful story about an African American woman in the early 1900s who writes letters to find her strength and self-worth despite facing harsh treatment and challenges.
  • White Fang - Jack London: Adventure novel that follows a wild wolf-dog's journey as he struggles to survive in the harsh wilderness and eventually learns to trust and love humans.
  • The Priory of the Orange Tree - Samantha Shannon: Epic fantasy novel that weaves together the stories of several characters as they battle dragons, uncover ancient secrets, and fight to save their world from a looming dark force.
  • The Black Dahlia - James Ellroy: A dark crime novel that follows two detectives in 1940s Los Angeles as they become obsessed with solving the brutal and mysterious murder of a young woman, leading them into a web of corruption and violence.
